RV Furniture or Regular Furniture??

I'm in the market to buy a used Class C. I know the first thing I want to do when I purchase is replace the booth dinette, sofa and chair. Is there a difference between RV furniture and regular furniture other than price and what they look like. Lordy - the RV furniture I have seen in existing RVs and in several online RV furniture stores is so ugly!!! Will I have a problem if I buy "regular" furniture instead of RV furniture?

  • To replace our booth, I found a table from a parted out camper and I bought chairs from a furniture store. We replaced the jacknife couch with a Basset loveseat.
  • Heck i have a full hide-a-bed couch. Thing weighs a ton... but neither that nor the recliners are bolted down in mine. they dont move. Hell i travel with all my glasses and plates still in the cupboards
  • Another question: does the sofa/recliner have to be bolted to the floor? Seems that if they are heavy enough, they aren't going anywhere. What do you think?
  • I hadn't thought about hidden wiring, etc. under the dinette booth. I'll keep that in mind. A small table and a couple of chairs would suit me much better than a dinette. Being by myself, I tend to sit on the couch watching TV while eating now and see no reason why that should change when I'm in the RV.
  • Caution: The dinette booth may conceal wiring, plumbing and tanks underneath it.
  • Whatever you get make sure it will come apart in two pieces so you can get them in the door. Reclining love seats usually do.
  • Weight. RV furniture is often uncomfortable because it's built with lightweight materials. It's also generally less sturdy because of those materials. The exception to this is when you start looking at the higher end 5vers and "A"s.
  • There is a difference...."Regular furniture," is more comfortable.
If it fits, and you can get it through the door, go for regular furniture. More selection and usually less expensive.
