RV Parks near Corpus Christi, TX

As full-timers we have spent the past three winters in Corpus Christi and can tell you that virtually all the RVers you will encounter will meet your description. I don't think there's any park you can go to where that won't be the case. We like to stay at Pioneer RV Resort just south of Port Aransas because it is away from the city and on the water. However, depending on where your husband is working this could result in a significant daily drive.

Since we consider ourselves to be among the handful of liberals in this bastion of conservatism you are welcome to PM me if you are seriously looking for information on where to find other kindred spirits.

Try Shady Grove Mobile Home & RV Park on Flour Bluff (2919 Waldron Rd). Friends of mine stayed there for several months one winter. It's more mobile home park than RV park so that may terrify you. Flour Bluff is like a small town sandwiched between Padre Island and the big city of Corpus. You can walk to the local library from the park too. You most likely will not find it listed on RV Park Reviews either. You can look up some info on it at http://www.yellowpages.com/corpus-christi-tx/mip/shady-grove-mobile-home-rv-park-7063250 but it's not what I would call a typical RV park. Since it is a mobile home park you will need to get your own cable/internet (monthly) and the park gave my friends a letter that allowed them to get a library card at the local library. My friends like it there better than the place they were straying at in Rockport. But they are a bit different.

With all due respect to your friends, Flour Bluff is a relatively dreary looking lower end community with no particular attractions. Personally, I wouldn't spend a week there let alone a winter.

If all those "conservatives" are so nice and friendly, what's the problem?

Then you may want to see the west side of SPID down towards the high school and library. From what they said the side close to the base is scary at best (cops said to avoid that side as only directly ON the base was safe) yet there was an fancy age restricted 55+ rv park feet from the entrance to the base that would accept the 56yo hubby but the 50yo wife and 24yo daughter "would have to stay someplace else" (they thought that was hilarious). They loved that they could just drive across the last bridge to the island. Their opinion of the Rockport-Fulton, Aransas, etc rv parks was not very high yet others here and on other forums think those places are the bee's knees. They were also working, not retired. Perhaps that has something to do with it? I have noticed the retired RVers look for different things in a park than working RVers do. For them being close to the beach, library, stores and work was important. Potlucks, shufflebored courts, club houses and organized activities are at the bottom of their list.

Organized activities are at the bottom of our list, also, but for us it is location, location, location. From the park it is a short walk on the boardwalk over the dunes to the Gulf of Mexico and our site faces one of the larger birding ponds on Mustang Island. All winter long we can sip coffee in the morning while watching Egrets, Herons and Spoonbills. We're heavily involved in activities in Corpus Christi but we're willing to put up with the drive in order to have the view. The nearest big grocery is ~25 minutes away, but there is enough available on the island to tide us over in a pinch. To each his own.

Look for a itinerate migrant worker camp. Those residents are likely to be very liberal, at least on immigration issues.

Most definitely. There is a reason why parks with all different amenities and price points generally attract customers. I for one do not enjoy public pools (I think they are filthy) and have no interest in whether a park has one or not. Others would not stay in a park without a pool, whether they used it or not. For me it's mostly price, cable and wifi. Gotta have my www! :B

I wouldn't judge/label people by their title. I've met people of both sides who were both friendly, and met those were close-minded and judgmental.

Everyone has their own thing they like doing... one person has to have good Wi-Fi, but for me, with being in IT, I like a pretty park and being well away from it all, and Wi-Fi not something I care about. I'm sure if I were full-timing, it would be a different story.
