RV Parks

I am thinking of joining the RV world and I am looking at a 2000 motorhome with the hope of taking off for 6months traveling the country. A friend told me that many RV Parks do not allow units that are over 10 years old. Is this true?

Thank you for your replies.
  • The only time I've even been asked was in St. Charles Mo. They just wanted to know who owned what. My rig is 25 years old and, while it's in good shape, it's definitely not a new one.
  • I've heard of it but have never experienced it personally in close to 30 years of RVing.
  • We've visited hundreds of RV campgrounds/parks over the years, and I've been asked what year my coach was at check-in exactly once back in 2005. And that time was only because the clerk's sister had a similar 20 year old Class C and he wondered if ours was the same layout. Some parks that do have the 10 year rule, only apply it to long term stays in excess of a 3 or 4 weeks.
  • What BB_TX said is true. If you are planning to use "resorts" throughout your trip, that may come into play, but if you are planning to use local, state and national parks, you shouldn't have any problems.

We have stayed a couple of times in them, but it was because of the location and we only stayed a day or two. The prices per night usually price me out of them.
  • I don't think that "many" is the correct word. I have never stayed at one that had the 10 yr rule. But I have heard of them. I think they tend to be the "higher class" RV parks that cater to the higher dollar RVs. Not a place we stay at any way.
  • There are a handful of those places but they are actually few and far between. And as stated, many of those will look the other way if the rig is well cared for.
  • I have not run into that where I camp. I wouldn't want to stay at a place like that, anyways. My lil Hybrid would not fit in with my 9yo running around.
  • As long as it doesn't look 10 years old shouldn't be a problem. Any park that would turn away an RV in good condition would be a place you might not want to stay at anyway.
  • never has been for me. This rule gives them a way out of the junk checking in.
