RV Storage - best options?

We chose a slightly more pricy lot because it had good mouse suppression. We could have parked in a farmer's field for a bunch cheaper, but wanted something a bit more secure and rodent free.

We currently store ours at a police impound lot. The police run through it regularly, but only use a few spaces, so they let the autoshop next door manage renting spaces out for them. It's out in the open and expensive ($79/mo), but close and secure. There's an open field not much further away for half the price. I'm thinking about getting on a wait list for an indoor place for $150/mo to help protect the unit better.

Don't you hate that! My rent has gone up almost $40 a month this past year. They did repaint the whole facility and they keep it clean, do pest control, etc. but if they keep raising the rent I will have to come up with another storage option.

I just upgraded my storage space. It is expensive in my area (West Coast of Florida). I pay about $250 a month for a 12.5' x 45' space that is covered (like a giant car port). It has un-metered electric at each site. The storage lot has an area for you to wash your RV/boat and also has a dump station. There are TONS of cameras everywhere and they have a bunch of TVs in the lobby where you can see the whole lot. I hate spending that much money each month but its secure and keeps my RV out of the elements. Most storage lots around my area want $80-$90 just to park in a parking lot without electric, cover, etc. What I have noticed is costs vary A LOT depending on what part of the country you live in. I only have a 30' TT but plan on getting a Class A soon and it took me a little over 2 years on a waiting list to get the '45 spot. Supply and demand dictate the price.

I feel bad about paying $35 a month. The upside is insurance drops by about the same amount for storage only.

Check out a few facilities. If it is outside storage and someone isn't onsite 24/7, make sure they have cameras on your unit. Make sure there are other RVs and/boats on site. If there aren't, there might be a reason for that.

We have 3 storage options within 5 minutes of our house. They are not the same. The first one we stored at, our HTT got broken into after 6 months there. Haven't had a problem in the last 6 years at the place we are at now. This place has cameras, the gate is locked from 9 pm to 7 am at night and it is along a US Highway.

Why not check local campgrounds? That's where we plan to store ours. I figure they would be a tad safer as there is usually someone there most of the time.

Are you kidding? I can rent a cabin at over 35 different state parks in Michigan for 40 nights for what this place wants in storage fees alone. That's pretty pricey money just for storage.

Whichever is cheaper.

I'm fortunate our storage yard is only about 5 miles away. I pay to keep it undercover and mostly out of the sun and with power so I can run the fridge (to cool it down a day before we need it) or a dehumidifier in the winter months. While I would rather have it next to the house, other than the day before we leave with it sitting in front of the house, no one knows we are gone.
