Ok so I think nearly everyone agrees, my 30A - 15A dogbone should not be used for a 20A load such as A/C startup.
But here's the good news. Just found this, for $9.38:
CESMAD3020 30-20A 120V RV Plug Adaptor
Description says, "Allows a 15A or 20A receptacle to accept a 30A TT-30 plug
30 Amp, 120 Volts Adapts to 20 Amp, 120 Volts" And Bingo was his name-oh.
