Sewer Outlet Location

Hi All,

I found a reasonable price locally on this particular model that fits my required needs:

2013 Gulf Stream Ameri-Lite Ultra-Lite LE 25BH

When talking to a few individuals who have owned multiple TT/5th wheels before, they were concerned with the location of the Sewer Outlet. Believing there is high probability of damage when backing up/normal driving conditions. I was looking for a general consensus on how prevalent this problem is for others based on it's location?

Bottom-line, the weight, layout & price fit very well with my wants and needs. Should the location of the sewer outlet turn me away? Will this be a problem with other TT models as well?

More input the better! Thanks to All
  • My fifth wheel has the second gray water valve located at the rear. Coming up on eighteen years and hasn't been a problem yet.
  • What 'IF'.........

    Get the rig....go camping.......enjoy!

Our sewer line (header---3 tanks) is forward of trailer axles. Absolutely no problems...right!
Forward axle tire BLEW.........ripped the whole sewer line OFF and showered everybody behind us with yuck!!! (All three tanks were partially full :B:B)

So forget the what 'IF'.....deal with the :S when and IF it should happen.

Otherwise......don't sweat the small stuff (and it's really all small stuff)
    Enjoy life!!!!
  • We did see 1 trailer with it at the rear that tore it off as he was backing into a site because of the slope and tree roots.
  • As long as it doesn't have two of them I wouldn't worry a about it.

Was trying to find a photo showing your concerns with the sewer line connection concerns without any luck...

I'm guessing it must come out near the rear of the trailer.

The sewer lines can always be changed if that turns out to be a problem... I would think as long as you know of any close proximately thing when backing it really shouldn't be an issue. i.e. you will be aware of the possible backing hazard.

Looking at all the interior photos of this trailer on-line it certainly looks like a real nice layout inside for you.

  • If the sewer line hangs to low or is near the rear of the trailer some people have damaged the sewer connection pulling in and out of driveways and other "humps" in the road. It is a valid concern. Guess it would depend upon how I used it and how much of a risk it was to me.
  • Very little chance of a problem with normal driving. If you blow a tire it's likely that any sewer problem will be the least of your concerns - there can be significant damage due to a blowout.

With a competent driver there is also very little chance of damage when backing.

When backing anything low or high behind the trailer can cause damage.

Buy the rig. Learn about tires. A 2013 rig does not mean you have good tires.
  • Most are located just forward or aft of the axle and should not be a concern. However, we have seen some near the rear of the trailers, and if the hang down low it could be concerning if the trailer bottoms out.
  • What is the issue with the sewer outlet? I'm having a difficult time visualizing what the concern could be.
  • The location of ours is near the axles so it can't be damaged unless a protrusion came along.
