Shorter Travel Trailers

My wife and I are looking for a travel trailer in the 22 foot range. There are so many out there we are worried about quality. Are there any brands with good longevity? We would love to have this be the last RV we buy. We would like to have a slide out.

  • Lance, Northwood, Bigfoot, Airstream Bambi are all decent in that size range. (There's a wide range of prices in those 4 also.)

While I'm happy with my Gulfstream, it's not a high-quality-last-trailer type unit. IMO, washing a trailer does little to nothing for longevity - it just looks nicer.
  • Check out Northwood. We are happy with our Nash 17k trailer.
  • How you care for what you buy plays a big factor. Most people seem to buy something and never keep it maintained, never wash it, they just use it. In 5 years they have a piece of junk on wheels.

I've seen people buy relatively inexpensive trailers and use them for 10, 15 years or more and they are still in great condition. I fall in the second group.
  • Take a look at Riverside Mfg. in Lagrange, In. You can go to their website. We toured the factory and the Amish really tried to put quality built in. They now make a slide out model. After all is said and done, you have to pick what is best for you and your family. Good luck and enjoy the process. Don't get in too big a hurry.
  • Welcome to the forum.

Northwoods trailers have a reputation for building longer-lasting trailers. And I believe they build their own frames instead of using ones from Lippert.
Keep in mind there are a few suppliers used across many brands. You'll find Lippert frames, axles, suspension, doors ect used on many brands. Ditto for Atwood and Suburban appliances and WFCO power converters.
Grand Design is a relatively new company but people on the GD forum are happy with the factory support they get.
We had a Heartland North Trail for 4 years. The appointments had a cheap feel to them but I never had it back to the dealer for any repairs.

    Good luck in your search.
  • The sky is the limit for what you're asking. If you are wanting something smaller, we saw one of these this last week-end, someone was camping in. It had the slide and it sure was cute. Looks well built. Check em out, look at the floor plans.
