slide outs spray for metal parts

Within the last 3 months there was a posting of what people thought was best for maintaining your slide outs underneath. I can't find that post, tried searching but no luck.

Right now I'm using Protect All "slide out spray dry lube" but I don't feel it is very good or there has to be something better. I'm thinking about Boeing T-9 spray as I like it, but don't know if it will really perform any better in this application. I'm a big believer in not spraying anything that will collect dirt (heavy grease and oils)

What is the "best" slide out protection in your opinion?
  • I have double rails with teeth that are driven by gear assembly that is actuated by hydraulic piston.
Rails are exposed to elements...............mfg. states NO Lubricates. Just wire brush.

So I wire brush them down.....and then give them a light coating of dry graphite spray.
Piston rod.......wipe down with cloth to remove any dirt/dust then another wipe down with a cloth with silicone spray on it

    Slideout seals/wipers........talcum powder

    7 yrs. all good
  • For the rack and pinion gears just about anything is better than nothing.
A dry film lube works good because it doesn't attract dirt but I have been using a teflon spray for ten years and it hasn't attracted any serious amount of dirt. I spray it often though. If I drive in dusty or wet conditions then I spray it down as soon as I can.
If you have rams then I would not use a steel brush. Brass or plastic would be OK as would just wiping it with a solvent soaked rag.
  • Just a note of caution. I used to generously spray the rack and pinion gears and rails. Then we discovered oil/dirt transferred to the carpeting inside the RV from the slide rails.

So, now I spray and wipe down the top rails with a rag.
