Slime air inflator

I was at CW today to see Mr. Marcus come to open his new store, and while shopping I saw an air inflator for trucks/RV... priced nearly $300.00.

There is a inflator online and at walmart called Slime air inflator priced at little over $60.00 Has anyone heard of or used this for your truck/RV?

thank you,

bill & jodi

  • I have one of those slime compressors. I bought it for taking to the trails with the jeep. I usually air the tires down to 8psi for off road performance. At the end of the day I use it to air the tires back up to 28psi. It takes a few minutes but it gets the job done. When not on the trails I use it in the camper for pumping up air mattresses.
  • I bought one from Pep Boys last year. It has its own battery that you recharge. It works well, but does take a little while to get up to 50-60 PSI. I think I paid about $50 for it.
  • I got one 4 years ago when I had a blowout and the spare only had 15lbs. I only use it up to 50 lbs.2 years ago the hose split.I called Slime and asked if I could buy another.Even though out of warranty, they sent me a free hose .
Somebody would make a fortune if they came out with a kit to convert these to 1/4 inch air hoses!!!
  • I've been using the Slime from Wally World and works pretty good. Its kind of slow I guess, but gets the job done. I've never tried airing up from a complete flat, just adjustments from 60 psi to 75/80 psi. 300 bucks is a lot!
  • I have been using one very similar to that for the last several years. It works well and seems to be reliable but my use is fairly light. It does generate a lot of heat so that COULD be a problem for it's long term use if used heavily. I would use it to raise rear tire pressures from around 50 to the 80 lb. max when we stayed at a place for a few days and lowered pressure to improve the trucks ride, and of course to maintain pressure in the trailer tires.
  • This is pretty much the same tire inflater that Harbor Freight is selling but with the Slime name on it. At Harbor Freight it goes down to $30 fairly regularly. I use this in my car and it works well. I tried it on one of my 80 psi RV tires and it did strain and got hot, but it did add the air I needed to the tire. I would not try it if inflating a flat tire. Lowes sells a pretty good inflater for $39 and it will work on DC or AC. I use this for my RV with good results and it gets good reviews. Never plug any of these into a cigarette lighter socket - it must be in an appliance socket with 15 amps or higher.

  • I've got on it works fine for my air bags pretty slow for tires
We cut of the cig plug and added a trailer plug to get juice from the trucks trailer socket
    Good Luck, Mike
  • If it is the one I see here
    http://www.amazon.com/Slime-COMP06-Heavy-Duty-12-Volt-Inflator/dp/B000M8R0QM/ref=sr_1_6?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1381026585&sr=1-6

Then be aware that "Note: For use with 12-volt DC power outlets rated 15 amps or higher. Do not use with older 8 amp cigarette lighter receptacles."

It also has mixed reviews on Amazon
