Like many, I started with Corelle, separating each plate with a cheap paper plate to cut down on the noise when moving, and they're unbreakable. But I found out that, when dropped from a sufficient height at the correct angle, they will shatter into a million pieces. Switched to Melmac. They don't break if you drop one, but if you pour boiling hot coffee into one of their cups, a perfectly straight crack forms between the thin side and the thicker bottom, distributing that hot coffee all over whatever its sitting on.
The solution?
Prison food trays. Only one dish to wash, dishwasher safe and they have a spot for your eating utensils and coffee cup for that walk out to the picnic table. For beverages,
Tervis Tumblers.. Plastic, double walled to keep hot liquids hot or cold liquids cold, and unbreakable.
