Stove vent banging in the wind

Any ideas to operate from inside RV?

Maybe some type of push rod or magnet or ?

Life is hard having to go outside and unlock the little flapper knobs :). Even harder when the flapper starts banging at 3 in the morning when I forget to lock the little flappers when done using stove.

(Search box is running real slow for me today)

Any ideas appreciated, Thanks
  • I glued a rare earth magnet to the flapper outside and a washer just inside. It stays closed until the fan it turned on.

    Sounds like Super idea...

Do you happen to remember the size of magnet and where you mounted it on the flap (bottom, 1/2 way up, etc) So air from fan would force out.

    Thanks
  • About the size of a quarter. On one corner. The washer fit there behind the flap better. If you have an old hard drive take it apart until you find the magnets inside. They are strong.
  • A company called "Kwik Link" makes a vent cover that uses a sliding cover, not a flapper. Not cheap but really good!

Google them and click on the New Products tab.
  • When it is windy and mine wants to flap, I use a clothes pin and clip it open. Only time it really needs to stay closed is when in storage to keep wasps out.
  • I think that you have a Ventline vent hood, Google "Ventline.com" pg 24 in their catalog. They mfg. Cable operated and solenoid operated vents.

You can pick up 12VDC from your range hood light or fan 12VDC supply, add a simple SPST on/off toggle switch on the front of the range hood and have a power operated vent cover!
  • The previous owner of my RV used half of a velco strip (loop side, not the hook side) applied to the door. It doesn't stop it from flapping in the wind but it doesn't make any noise when it does.

I did this for a different problem, and it worked like a charm.

When driving, the pull bob on the shade that covers the entrance door window bounces around and taps on the door, making a continuous noise. I put the loop side of velcro on the door where the pull bob hits. No more noise.
  • We stuffed a wad of walmart bags under the hood part to keep it closed.
