Tips for camping with babies ??

We used a plastic kiddie pool for our boys. No water of course. Put their toys in, blanket. They play, they sleep, they couldn't get out. It made camping way more relaxing. Ours would just fit in the door of the camper when packing up.

We have a almost 3 yr old and a 3 month old. The 3 yr old camped for the first time at 2 weeks old. The new baby camped for the first time a month ago.

Never use any product with DEET on an infant. We use the skin so soft stuff, and also citronella candles, and thermocell's. We have a seasonal site in the northwoods of WI, so the skeeters get pretty bad.

Pack and play is awesome.
Some people find infants are easier to take care of. I don't. I find I am able to stress less with my 3 yr old. But as I found out last weekend, he will take off and go to the neighbors camp site to play with their little girl, without a word to us. LOL.

Our 1YO camped with us last year without major issue. He slept (and napped) in his pack-n-play on the collapsed dinette at night. This season, he is going into the HTT bunk along with his bigger brother. It will be nice to not have to collapse the dinette every night.

During the day, at times, it would have been nice to have one of those plastic play yard fences to keep him contained, but in general it was fine. I cant imagine it will be much better now that he is 2 and even more mobile.

I can say that we definitely got a lot of use out of the tot-lock seat that we could clamp onto the dinette or picnic table. It was really handy to buckle him into that thing for meals.

We've taken our daughter camping ever since she was 6 weeks old. She is 2 now.

She still sleeps in her pack-n-play on the dinette. We tried sleeping her just on the dinette bed, and she won't sleep - she just gets up and plays. We also tried sleeping her in the top bunk, with rails etc. to keep her from falling, she wouldn't do it except to play. She did fall from the top bunk once - she tried to get down and fell down onto the bottom bed, and then fell onto the floor.

Also, the screen door can be tricky. Ours leaned on the screen door and fell out once.

At 3 months old, we took a trip to Yosemite with her. She did great. We have cute pictures of her getting a bath in a bowl in the kitchen sink.

Our daughter loves camping - especially with the cousins. Just keep an eye on them and everyone will have a great time.

Quite common for the grandparents to take the grand kids.

We are fulltimers and our son is now 21 months old... it gets easier. Do all the same things you would in a house: door and drawer locks, lock for toilet seat, lock for front door, etc. The worst.time is during teething so we notify the parks we stay at in advance and they place us out and away from others.

We have had our 5 kids all camping before they were 1. Yep its harder as they grow, but they are way more fun. Try and not over protect them, but keep a good eye out. You will also enjoy them more as they grow with camping.
