They serve two purposes
1: They look nice
2: They flatten your wallet.
What the DO NOT do is stop UV light from damaging the tire.
Now if you cut a slab of plywood, say 1/4 or 3/8" and lay it against the tire then cover that so it looks good.. That might stop the UV - Matt_ColieExplorer IIAccording to Roger Marble (after his wonderful talk at an FMAC rally) modern ties are not subject to much damage from UV as the inhibitors are now included in the outer layers. What is an issue is heat. He was careful to point out that even in the northern climates, tires in the sun can accumulate a lot of heat. So, if you are buying tire covers, get the white or silver.
Matt - LwiddisExplorer IIAbsolutely needed. Tire covers prevent UV damage.
- QCManNomad IIIAside from protecting the tires they are good for statements, opinions and advertising.
