This is the way I see it. If you want to see and be a part of the natural elements of this great country, the rivers, lakes, national parks and the such, take a trailer. If you want to see the historical, cultural and societal aspects, fly, rent a car or two, and stay in motels.
An RV can bring you closer to the natural landscape, IMHO.
Not from my experience. I've been in RV parks where there's very little nature and in a hotel right in the heart of Yellowstone with the bison on the front lawn.
Somewhere in this thread there is a suggestion to go from park to park or cg to cg renting cabins. This is a GREAT combination of both-been there, done that, loved it. Then you can choose to fly or drive or both. Just make sure the cabins come with linens, etc.
