I have a 2012 Ram short bed and was just as paranoid about the short bed and put in a slider. I've never used it. In 2 years of travel I've never been in a place where I needed to so twist my rig that it was necessary. Yes, I do keep a very close eye on the trailer front in relation to my cab... but I'd be doing that anyway.
