If you have never towed a trailer before, this may sound completely wrong, but the truth of the matter is, the longer they are, the easier they are to maneuver, especially back up into parking spaces, drive ways, or campsites.
There is a point where it becomes a bit too much when they get too long only because of tail swing and the availability of larger spaces to actually park into.
I know this may sound the opposite of what you think, but the longer the wheel base from the hitch to the center of the trailer tires, the easier they are to back-up and navigate.
With a short wheel base, the reaction a short trailer is much faster. The slightest turn of the steering wheel and the trailer can jack-knife almost immediately.
With a longer wheel base, (longer trailer), the reaction is much slower, giving you more and much better control.
The same trailer (if it were possible) would back up much easier with a Volkswagon Beetle than it would with a stretch limousine. So, with the tow vehicle, the shorter they are, the easier the backing too.
A good combination would be a small wheel based tow vehicle with a gigantic long trailer. But that could never happen, as the tow vehicle could never handle a large trailer.
Think of semi-truck drivers. Trailers that are 53 feet long, and they can get them parked on a dime, every time. Why? because the wheel base of the tractor is so short, and the wheel base of the trailer is so long.
