Has any one mounted a trailer hitch on the front of their motor home?We are thinking about hauling our boat on our next weekend get away to the lake. and I'm wondering how I will be able to back it up onto the ramp. my wife is not very mobile so its hard for her to assist. so I thought maybe putting a hitch on the front so I could see the boat would do the trick.As long as the ramp is not real steep it should not be a problem bring it back out of the water, and the places we would bring it are not.

I have seen front mounted hitches for carrying motorcycles and bicycles, so why not.....

Have you tried backing it up on the back? Because of the long rear overhang it's easier than you would think. Adding reflectors to the trailer making it as wide as the MH helps to see where it's going in time to correct.

I tried it here in the yard yesterday did not do to well. the camera helped some. the reflectors are a great idea I will investigate that tomorrow.

I have put front mount hitches on the current truck and the one before it. I carry a Honda scooter or our bikes with the proper attachments.If your MH is a Class C then you should be able to order a hitch from etrailer to fit. If you have a Class A that doesn't have a truck/van frame then you may have to have something custom built.There are quite a few people on here with hitches on the front of tow vehicles, and I think a few with them on motor homes.I have seen people use front mount hitches with 2wheel drive trucks , so the traction tires stay on the dry part of the ramp.Check the weight rating on the hitch to be sure your boat won't overload the hitch.

i have 2 on my truck.as metioned,if its a c class it should be no problem.they're surprisingly easy to install.most class 3 or better have a 500 lb. tongue weight and 9500 lb pull rate.

My Class B has a front hitch mounted right in front of the driver and the PO used it to put his bass boat in! Many of my fishing coworkers have commented on how great a set up that is to single hand your boat....

When I had my boat I used a front mounted hitch to launch my boat.

I had a pickup with a camper on board.

After you have launched a boat with a front mounted hitch you probably will never go back to using the rear hitch.

The only issue I can see with a Motor home would be traction on a wet boat ramp. My pickup was 4 wheel drive so traction was not an issue.

I used to work with a guy that did this. He was an older gentleman and didn't care for the hassle of back his boat into the water and had mounted a hitch on the front bumper of his pick up. It worked very well for him.

Even though you can see it better.. Its not all that much easier trying to maneuver a trailer and backing up around the ramp and a lot on the front of a vehicle. I would build something to just attach to the trailer to better see it in the mirrors for backing. I'm sure you could even make it removable.

I mounted brackets on the side of my boat trailer. When I would get ready to launch the boat stick the flags in so it was easy to back up and see where the trailer was. Easier than you may think.

I had a welder put a hitch on the front of my motor home for carrying bikes. It works really well for that but I know nothing about putting boats in the water.

The simpler solution is a 10' long 2" x 4" with alternating bands of black and white painted on each end about 4" wide. Strap it across the stern of the boat with bungee cords and the bands act as a gauge to quickly show you how much it's moved to one side or the other like a gauge.

It makes backing up single-handed a breeze.

I have seen many on MH's down on the snake river where people drive their boats into the water. lot easier than trying to back a boat with a MH.
