Trip advice - New to RV'ing and from London UK!

Hello everyone. I am travelling to the US this weekend and after a business event I am renting an RV for 1 week. We had planned to check out Arizona and the general area but I think we have underestimated the planning side of our trip. I am looking for some friendly advice on the routes we should consider and where to stop along the route. I know this is a really green and newbie set of questions but I think we just ran out of time and I stumbled across your forum.

Look forward to hearing back.

Alex
  • Couldn’t be said any better than kaydeejay said it. With a week you’ll barely be able to scratch the surface and you’ll be pushing hard to do that. For example, if you were at the Grand Canyon and wanted to visit the Tombstone area it would be about a 430 mile drive. With that time you’ll have to take the interstates to cover any ground, the worst way to see AZ. But it is what it is. That means I-40 across northern AZ and I-17 north and south. Unless you’re in southern CA, then it would be I-8 or I-10.
I think it would be best to select the places you really want to see, give yourself some non-driving time to see them, and then ask on the forum about the routes to take.

As an ex-pat Brit myself I fear you, much like many of our fellow countrymen, have not yet developed an appreciation of the size of the USA.
Arizona alone is 1.5 times the area of all of Great Britain.
Could you cover that in a week???

As others have said, we need to understand your interests so we can take a stab at some meaningful suggestions.

I can't see you visiting much of Arizona, let alone any other "general area" in your timeframe.

Specifics please, starting with where you plan to rent (and return?) the RV.
  • Where are you starting?
How much time do you have?
What do you want to see?
    Where are you ending?

Other than Arizona, you have given no information.
  • we need to know WHERE you will be arriving in the the states. if it is Phoenix, AZ, we can help you work out a route plan to see several things.
  • Suggesting a route begs the question of starting point and destination.

Do be aware that "Arizona and the area" is a big place. If you choose to drive from corner to corner, you will need a whole day, and a long day at that, to do it. With no stops except for fuel and potty.
  • If you have specific interests, we can sure help you. If you have specific destinations determined, we can help you fill in around them.
