many do just that.. Dish Network and Directv has differences...
I have a tablet (like a smartphone) and use a satellite finder app... helps greatly in aligning the dish (antenna).. and seeing WHAT may be blocking the satellite.
if you get the alignment GOOD you get HD.. not so good SD... but it is like finding a DOT in the sky.. and no light to see the dot..
Practice . practice...
also if you are 100 miles or more from home.. you will need to CALL the provider to change your "SERVICE" area.. for LOCAL channels..
on Directv.. could take 5 minutes and sometimes 20 minutes..
FYI. in some areas the local channels are mixed within the HD program and so you need to get the HD working correctly.. (MB,SC is one)
and YES .. I take an old bill (Directv) and tape it to the receiver.. everything you need to talk or type to the provider is on it..
