Though CB radio is not nearly as popular as it was when Chip Davis was known as C.W.McCall (Google him if you want to know who I'm talking about, add the word "Steamroller" to his name for more accurate results).
They still get some use.. I know the state of Ohio, near Cincinnati has a transmitter on chan 19 that broadcasts road hazard info for one of the freeways there.
And I was in KY a couple falls ago and the radio started yammering about some fatal accidents up ahead.. I found an exit and a parking lot for the night, just as the police closed the entrance ramp at that same point.. HOURS in a traffic Jam... I did not endure. A nice relaxing evening, I did enjoy.
I run with 2 CB's (out of 3) one on 19, one on 13 (The third is a hand held, batteries removed, in storage since I currently have no use for it).
-Page2- Where to mount:
Now I have a class A so I slapped a shaped and stained length of 2x4 on the wall beside the driver, it holds the CB's a Ham radio and some other stuff. This is not the best location (under a window) as alas, the window leaked an took out one of the radios .. The replacement is sheilded against this but that too causes issues.
There are a number of "Under the seat" type radios, these have a box that mounts under the seat, or in some other "out of the way/out of sight" location and all the controls are in the mic, Generally it is a speaker mic (not that great) Use a good communications speaker (Which can also be mounted hidden) on the external speaker jack on the "hidden" box and use this type, less to mount, and you can unplug and toss the mic/control head, in the glove box or some other hiding place when parked (Out of sight = out of thief's mind) which might save you the cost of a window and radio some day.
