Realize the biggest hurdle will likely be the heavy unloaded tongue weight. These trailers are designed for hauling heavy toys thus designed nose heavy so the “toys” balance it out.
That said, I would have zero concern about putting up to 1500lbs tongue weight on the back of a new 1/2 ton with some wd bars transferring some of the load up front.
I’ll stay out of the weight cops peeing match though!
The variable is not whether the truck will handle it (it will, easily if properly equipped). The variable is, are you ok towing about anything anywhere (mountains where you live) and have sufficient experience to recognize everything included with towing at the upper end of what the truck will handle? Or are you new to the towing game and prefer some extra factor of safety in the tow rig?
Another option, although I like the TH open concept, is you have 2 bicycles. Get a TT, hang the bikes off the back or put them in the truck bed and have zero tongue weight concern.
