Weigh Stations?

I am planning to purchase my first motor home, Probably a 40' Safari Ivory DP. This may seem ridiculous but I am a newbie.

Do I have to stop at weigh stations?

My brother in law works at the weight station off 74 in Illinois. He said that people who use RV for personal use do not need to stop at the weight scale. If someone is using the RV for commercial purpose, that is a different story.

I do not stop. However...

In Oregon, I have stopped at closed weigh stations to get a quick, easy and free weight of my motorhome.

Maybe other states leave their scales on?
