"What experiences led you to be able to do RVing? "
Well, I'm a little different then most.. Many times over the last 44 years when someone mentioned camping, my response was 'I spent a year camping in Viet Nam, no interest thank you'.. The ability part; I can drive anything, and I retired at 50 (mostly retired anyway).
My hobby, and business kept me on the East coast, NJ-FL, retired in 98.. In 06 I started riding a motorcycle, which cut into the fishing more than a little. Went to Sturgis in 07 and decided I wanted to see first hand all the places out west I thought looked so cool in the movies. Did a trip in my Tahoe, covered 16000 miles, saw 31 National Parks, slept in 55 different hotels in 64 days, rented motorcycles 9 different times..
My fiancée bugged me to buy a RV (we have several friends with motor homes), while she won't admit it, it was because she missed our two dogs. I was against it, I've had a few big boats and promised myself those days were over... Well last summer we shipped the bikes to Sturgis as usual, after the rally we were starting our typical 3 week long ride, this time towards home (NJ then). Well it was cold and wet when we left, we got 200 miles and I pulled over, went back to her and suggested we go back to Rapid City, ship the bikes back and fly home. This wasn't fun for either of us. Neither of us wanted to bag the trip, but neither of us wanted to suffer like that. While waiting for our flight, she says; 'See if we had a RV we'd still be on our trip'. So that's when I folded and said, okay, we'll get one. Thought about what I like to do on these trips, and decided a 5th wheel toy hauler with a pickup was the right set up. We can tour with the pick up on days we can't (or don't want to) ride the scoots and go places we can't go with a Class A or on a Harley. So here we are.. Going entry level (or used) to start, figure it out as we go! Got the RV, now pick up hunting...
