I guess my question is - do you go closer to what you are even if over or do you go to the next higher rating? Even if TW is 700 lbs, it is closer to 600 than 1000. I heard going to high can effect the ride.

I have ordered the 1000 lb bars but can change if they are too high a rating

For a couple reasons, you go to next higher rating.

1. Your tongue weight is not a constant number. Depending on what you load, and where you load it, your tongue weight will fluctuate during every trip. You may load more groceries, you may load more water, etc. Groceries get used up, water gets used up, holding tanks get filled. Your tongue weight is going up and down as you go. If you decide, you want to boondock and add a battery on the trailer tongue, most of that weight is tongue weight.

2. Your estimated weight behind the axles, may be a bit low. The weight distribution hitch, is weight behind your rear axle. That could be 100 lbs by itself. Most of us carry our chocks, tools, leveling boards / blocks, etc, back there also. Could even be some firewood.

As far as going too high on the bars, you have some flexibility in setting the tension.

Go larger! What we did and I've been running the same Equal-i-zer for 15 years and it's on camper #3. However, you can just call and talk to some very knowledgeable folks at Progress and they'll answer all you need.

on the other hand, go bigger if you ever have a larger TT in the future, you won't have to buy a new WDH

Your borderline, I'd prabably get the 1,000#, cause if you put more stuff in TT or TV then you'll need the 1,000# . Interesting to see what others will have to say
