I just put down a deposit on Jayco 32BHDS and in the usual style of putting the cart before the horse...I know neee to find a truck that can tow this 10k lbs beastLooking for a used truck but just as I think I've found the right truck it turns out not to have the right engine or rear axle. Can someone please tell me what truck I should be looking for? A truck that when I finally find it I will have no doubts about its capability to pull my TT. Looked at Silverado 2500HDDodge Ram 2500F250But what engine is needed in each? Axle? Trannny?Thaks

Seems like some will recommend a half ton now days but I prefer the truck to have much more capacity to be safe as well as a bigger stronger engine. For me it will always be a Diesel, manual trans and 1 ton axle. Overkill, probably.

I have the same trailer (2016). I had a 2012 GMC 2500HD and it towed it just fine. It had the 6.0L gasser and I can't recall the gears but I will check if I have it around somewhere. I have since changed trucks to my current 2011 F350 with the 6.7 and it tows like a dream. I didn't need the diesel but this truck was too good to pass up. I would not have wanted to pull this with my previous half ton.

What else will be in the truck? Just you? Or, are you carrying a family of 6, pets, gear, a 4 wheeler, generator, and some fire wood?Likely a 2500 series truck, gas or diesel, will be just fine but you may run out of payload capacity if you load the truck heavy.You really don't have much drive train choice. Only the Dodge is even available with a manual. Ford and GM give you a choice of 1 automatic transmission. Your engine choice is gas or diesel, either will work. You want low (numerically high) axle gears for that much weight. GM gives you very little choice, Ford more so. If it's a GM diesel there is no choice, they are all 3.73. If you get a GM gas you can have 4.10 which I would recommend. Not sure on RAM axle choices.

The most important thing you need to know about the truk is it's payload rating. To figure out what payload rating you need start Here

The auto transmissions out there today are far stronger than any clutch. I like driving a stick but, IMHO: for towing you are far better off with an auto trans.As always.... Opinions and YMMV.:C

We have a 2015 F250 with the 6.2L V8 and a 6 speed transmission. The 6 speed is the key....Ill never have a 3 speed again. Our prior TV a 2001 3/4 ton Suburban with a big 8.1L v8 and 3 speed, had to work some much harder than this 6.2. Its all in the gearing

Nice! Seems like a good choice on the tow rig. I hear those Ford V-10s are rock solid. It appears you've made some worthy upgrades to the suspension of your TV. Did you do that yourself or have a axle shop do the work?

Hey CO-traveler - the Chevy 2500HD didn't pan out....guy didn't have the title and it was going to take 3 weeks to get a new title. So I continued to look....and I came across a 2010 Ford F-250 Lariat V10.

We have been camping all summer long since the middle of June and the PP hitch has been rock solid, to say the least. my wife gave me sh1t when I plunked down the $$$$$ for it but has come around to seeing why I chose this hitch. You don't even know that the TT is behind my TV. Actually in preparation for a week long stay in VA I upgraded the original shocks to Rancho 5000X and added Firestone Ride-Rite air bags and I am very satisfied with the results.

sscheitel, did you get your new hitch and trailer all hooked up? Have you taken it out yet and how did it tow? Wanting to hear your thoughts b/c I'm also in the market for a Chevy 2500 with the 6.0 gas engine.

Eat your Cheerios. As you might expect it isn't a light weight hitch. :)

The Hensley and Pro Pride are good hitches. However I'm running a Reese Dual cam. I have zero issues towing my 35ft TT. It does a great job.

When I had my tow behind I bought the ProPride. At that time I found it to be better and cheaper than the Hensley you mentioned. It sure made pulling my trailer more relaxing than my old equalizer hitch. I would buy an equalizer if the ProPride or Hensley are too expensive. If I bought a tow behind again I would not hesitate to buy the ProPride. Great support as well.
