If it's something to do with training and especially if your department is paying for the training, they should furnish transportation. If you have to pay for it yourselves (6 guys?), then rent a big van and split the one way cost. It should run about $700 for a one-way full size van rental from Jacksonville, Florida to NY or Boston. I rented one from southern Ky to Miami, Florida for $685 this June one way. I also had to rent one to get the family back to Ky but the return one-way in the SAME size vehicle was only $159.
