Check out Retirement Living. It offers metrics for each state on a variety of subjects. Taxes( income, property, sales, intangible, etc.), education, housing prices, utilities, etc. Its been a while since I checked it, but some states tax your SS income, some tax all your income, some investment income, etc. Its been a while since I looked, but I remember two adjacent states where one had a sales tax but no income tax for seniors, and the other had an income tax but no sales tax. They suggested living on the border in one state and shopping in the other.
