- pauljExplorer IIOpinions on this forum come from mostly from people driving large RVs on freeways, and to a lesser extent other federal and state highways. These are roads where much of the damage is done by large trucks - tilted slabs and right lane grooves.
I'd have to look at the survey again to check this, but I think it depended on social media complaints, followed up by some sort of online photo verification. The complaints are more likely to be coming from locals in the course of their daily driving, shopping, and especially commuting. So it will be biased toward urban freeways and city/town streets, and car drivers.
In both groups, the loudest voices will dominate. Some RV posters are much more vocal than others, quicker to voice their opinion about roads, and taxes. - agesilausExplorer IIII really doubt that this survey is well done. On this list there was tens of thousands of hours on the highways. And the consensus opinion of people here does not match up with this list. I'd really have to see just where their subscribers are doing their driving. Do they have a lot of drivers in California and Louisiana? I have to doubt it.
I personally have been thru a number or most of the states that they list as having bad highways and my experience does not match up with their claims. Iowa for example didn't seem to have unusually bad roads and we drove all the way across the state, east to west, last year mainly on secondary roads. We did run into a few rough roads inside towns but the highways weren't that bad.
So I call hogwash on their list. And who would put road paint markings at the top of their list?! - profdant139Explorer IIVery depressing. I've never driven East of the Rockies, so I have always assumed California was the worst, since it is certainly the worst I have ever experienced.
But now it seems that when I finally have the time and the resources to take that big cross-country trip, I have to look forward to even more punishment.
Oh, well. - TBammerExplorerIn England they drive on the left side of the road. In Michigan we drive on what's left of the road. :-)
- BarabooBobExplorer IIIHere in Wisconsin the gas tax is suppose to be used for road maintenance. Unfortunately the last couple of governors have raided that fund to pay for everything but roads. Within 20 miles of my house, there are 4 roads that are unsafe to drive my old (formerly owned) Ford Ranger because the expansion joints were so high that it was hard to keep the Ranger going in a straight line.
Our new Governor wants to add another .08 on top of our current fuel tax but he has not said that it would be used for roads. - toedtoesExplorer IIILouisiana is 21 on the list (of 37 states listed).
- memtbExplorerI’m surprised that Pennsylvania didn’t make the top ten.....most truckers hate their roads! Also, a little surprised that my home state of Louisiana didn’t make the list either. Though, their road systems seem to be much improved over the last 20 years !
- TrekkarExplorer IIEven Michigan has some good roads. Interstates in the north are bad when weather is factored in, but I believe the truck traffic is what breaks them down quicker.
- edbehnkeExplorerMichigan is now after a .45 cent gas increase...it will be the highest in the country. ****.
Two problems i see in Michigan are the heavy trucks and the state keeps adding more lanes to the road system.
