I paid 1/3 the property tax in CA due to living in same house over 30 years. Fire insurance is way cheaper in CA when you have a fire hydraunt close by and fire station less than a mile away. Pricey car insurance. Don't have to drive far to shop but getting out of town to camp was a major project. Most of our camping was sailing up & down the coast because we were a mile from beach.
silvercorvette. As a retired LEO you have a 50 state CCW. So why did bring up that issue?
I was pointing out that most people that do not have the right to carry in 50 states are probably the people that need it most. As we get older we are not as strong a we were when we were younger which should be something people should consider. Also people that are not familiar with the area they are visiting may accidentally wander into a high crime area. There were a few times I made a wrong turn and discovered I was in what might be considered a bad part of town. I was comforted by the fact I had the ability to protect myself but there are many people that do not have the option that retired police officers do.
16 years of full-timing here, camping in all states, including Alaska, in public parks including national forests and boondocking out in the middle of nowhere by ourselves....we've never been afraid and have had no problems. Using common sense is all you need - not a gun!
