I'll let you in on a cowboy secret for percolater coffee. Buy a big one (with a wood handle), pull the guts out and throw them away. Fill it 6/8's of the way full of water, put your coffee in and half a teaspoon of sugar. Put it on the fire or stove until it starts to boil out the spout or into the crystal on the top and has good color. It's not enough sugar to sweeten the coffee (for those that like it black like I do) but it removes any bitterness.
