Your title brought back memories.
Our daughter 16 borrowed our brand new, red, firebird. She was going 4 miles down the road. There were rules...4 seats and belts = 4 people. It had air, no need for the T roof off. I had a feeling and called her 10 minutes before she left. I said to be careful of the fresh gravel on the road, and the bridge.
We got the call no parent wants. 3 ambulances and 2 air ambulances later they reached hospitals.
She went down the road and having broke rule 2, reached down to console to put the windows up, for the dust. As she looked up she was over the road. Her friend in the front panicked, grabbed the emerg brake. She lost control in the gravel, hit the bridge and went airborne 16'. The car took out a sign on top of the bridge. When the car hit ground it rolled forward, twice and sideways 3 times.
When I got the call they said that 5 kids had been brought in. I knew of 4 but not the 5th. Rule 1 broken. My son said give me a ride, I only need to go 2 miles on the way. He said he would sit on the hump in case they got caught or had an accident.
When my daughter came around she saw her brothers coat under the car, he had gone out the roof 75' in the opposite direction to the car. She still has visions of that 20 years later.
It didn't matter but there was not one part of the car undamaged.
According to the police the way the car went everyone should have been killed. somebody was watching out for them. My son went in the opposite direction to the car, that never happens. Usually you go straight out and are killed by the car.
The reason I tell this story is to have you all let your kids read it. It could save someone's life. None of us thought it would happen to us. Our kids, great kids, no alcohol, drugs involved. You never know when an accident will happen.
