My husband also made the kids change tires and oil. But...when DD was 17 she was going shopping & ignored the engine light & stuff billowing out of the hood, kept going until it died. With dad's guidance she pulled the motor and rebuilt the engine. She has been heard to wonder how many women can rebuild an engine, to which we reply...only the stupid ones who don't stop. She laughs and she does understand the workings of a car better than I ever will.
