1972 Norcold refrigerator is running TOO cold: HELP

This is a 1972 Shasta Compact with a Norcold 663 EG refrigerator. It works off propane and shore power. My friend plugged it in and the temp is steady at 10oF. Some parts of the frig were removed and in a drawer. Friend put the face plate for the temperature setting back on so the temp is on low now, but still too cold. She says it looks like someone rearranged the wiring in the back (access from outside vent area) but not her (or my) area of expertise to determine what was done.

Any idea what is going on? Anyone run across this before? Does anyone know reasonable priced place in Orlando, FL to get repairs? TIA

  • OK, so we found out the P.O. bypassed the thermister/thermometer/temperature controls and just hardwired it "on" all the time. An RV guy stopped by and said that the parts arent available anymore and there isnt even an upgrade kit available. Anybody ever have to do a "work around" for a frig that wouldnt turn off?

no. there is no "eyebrow". the innards are located below the frig and behind a panel.

My thoughts also, but I believe this frig has an external thermostat control in which case I wouldn't think it has a moveable Thermistor located on the fins inside. Maybe I'm wrong, don't know. :h

That thermistor mentioned above is probably bad. replace it.

Maybe this will help. :@ Norcold 600 series repair guide

Actually, there is no schematics or trouble shooting for earlier models. 663 is only mentioned in title, nowhere else.
