1996 to 1999 vintage Jeep Cherokee?

We are getting back to RVing after a few years traveling the East Coast waterways. We have an opportunity to pick up a late 90's Cherokee but, even though we haven't purchased our next RV yet, I want to make sure it is towable. The MH Towing Guide "only" goes back to 2000 and it is towable. I am guessing the earlier ones are too but thought I'd check.

  • Thanks. It is a Cherokee. Even though I towed a Wrangler and then a Grand Cherokee for many miles, I had forgotten that Jeep puts 4-down towing instructions in the manual! I will check that to be certain.

  • Cherokees (XJs) will be SelecTrac or CommandTrac.
Grand Cherokees (WJs) will be QuadraTrac.
  • You would also need to know if it is a Cherokee, or a Grand Cherokee, and which transmission it has

X-2 the 4X4 with automatic trans and transfer case. Quadra tracII? Transfer case in neutral, tranny in park, Dummy key in steering unlock position.

  • AFAIK, it is towable.
However, I strongly recommend that you find the Owners Manual online and read what it has to say about it.
    then you will KNOW!
