The only problem is that I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere and the guy only has Hi Runs. Nothing much I can do about it. Putting on 4 new Hi Runs, 10 ply. They're new and price isn't terrible. So we'll see how it goes.
We ran both Hi-Run and Provider tires on our hotshot trailers, with varying weights from 50% load rating all the way to max (and sometimes beyond).
Provider tires are the stock tires on new Haulmark enclosed trailers and PJ open trailers. They did the job OK, but the Hi-Run tires ran cooler, rarely blew out and got better fuel economy. The only issue I had was they wore a bit quicker (only got about 30,000 miles out of them compared to 35-40,000 miles out of the Provider).
In fact, I visited the old yard yesterday and they were working on a trailer getting ready to head out at max GVWR. The last trip it blew a tire (Provider) and had a Hi_Run replacement. The spares were also Hi_Run. If that trailer blows a tire on this trip, I guarantee it will be one of the two Provider tires on it. Slowly they are converting everything to Hi_run due to better performance.
Don't worry about your choice. Load range E Hi-Run tires are pretty darned good.
