IMHO.. The 2 1/2 is no longer required.
You can get forged shanks that are strong enough in 2 inch receivers to pull pretty much anything.
The strongest receiver I can find for a superduty like ours is made by Curt
Its rated for max trailer weight of 20,000 lbs and a max tongue weight of 2,700 lbs WITH OR WITHOUT Weight distribution.
Very substantial for a 2 inch receiver.
Here is a Link
This is way you never have to worry about receiver strength ever again. And its only $321.40 from Etrailer..
Thanks!

Hi Jeremiah,
While some of these 2" receivers have extreme ratings, if you are using a WD hitch, the largest WD shank I have found in 2" is 1,500# in WD mode. And Reese with their 2 1/2" shank use to be the highest rated at 1,700# in WD. Husky has one too now, but still 2 1/2"
Point: Having a 2" receiver rated for 2,700# in WD mode does not mean you can today at least, buy a WD shank in 2" that can even be used with it.
Has anyone found a 2" WD shank rated higher than 1,500#? It may be new info from my last search. Reese and Husky were the only 2 manufactures I found making 1,700# WD bars in a conventional WD hitch. Both need 2 1/2" shanks and receivers. The Pull Rite 2,000# needs its own 2 1/2" receiver.
