20% Bio Fuel at Flying J/Pilot

I Have ran it all and have never had a fuel related problem.

I am shocked to learn that switching around between B20,B5,and Bzero will cause the most problems. What problems, details please.

The stuff makes rubber and plastic hoses and seals and sealing compounds swell and deteriorate.
They changed the compounds of the rubber and seals, in newer models, is what I ran across, on this forum or other and sites on Internet at some time. I sure hope we can avoid the 20% stuff or biodiesel all together. I had put in a little to add lubricity and when it was all that was available, in parts of Az etc.I don't look forward to the possibility of replacing a lift pump etc for many thousands of dollars.

First of all it is not the ONLY thing available in a town. Second is if you are going to be lazy and put it in your truck then keep on using it and don't switch back and forth from B20 to B5 or straight diesel as this will cause the most problems. Second is to use a fuel stabilizer in every tank of biodiesel though at reduced concentrations as compared to having the vehicle stored.

The big ag companies are pushing the politicians to have there fuels forced upon the refineries and in turn the diesel engine manufacturers. Archer Daniels Midland and their cohorts in crime are the people to blame as they are the ones paying off the politicians. Bribes in the form of campaign contributions and free trips overseas are perfectly legal in the USA and common practice.

I am curious, what would Dodge do to convert a Cummins from B5 max to B20 max. This whole B5/B20 thing just seems like legal CYA.

Dodge warrantees our 2012 Dually not Cummins. Cummins may say the engine is capable of using B20 but Dodge says no more than 5%. So we will follow what Dodge says since the truck is still under warranty. And a gas truck is not an option. We even checked with Dodge about converting our truck to be B20 capable but it would cost us more than a new truck. So we will have a decision to make about purchasing a new truck or just avoiding states that primarily sell bio diesel. But it seems much of the Midwest is going the bio diesel route and that is a lot of states to avoid.

I do not have a truck but the 2006 Cummins ISL 400 in my RV. My manual says to "NOT" use biodiesel fuel. I called Cummins and asked them about it. I was told to go ahead and use up to the biodiesel B20. It would not harm anything. Just change my fuel filters a few extra times as it will clean everything from the fuel tank forward. Just because a manual says not to use it, does not mean that when you call the engine manufacturer that they will tell you it is ok to use.

OTR trucks do not have the same HPFP that the pickups do. Not even close.

Why do you think the engineers that designed the fuel system in my truck say do not use over B5 or your warrantee will be void?

Actually, they do: I recall the new DD13 and DD15 Detroits use a version of the (infamous) Bosch CP4 pump. :(
