The 6-spd trans with 3.42 axle are actually better than older 4-spds with 4.10 axle than few people complained about. It's the best GM offers with the 5.3L. But, 9600 pounds RV is not going to be fun due to aerodynamics and higher % of tongue weight than say a boat. Stick to under 6k dry and you should be fine. That will be more like 7000-7500 pounds loaded with 900-1000 pounds of loaded tongue weight.
Length does not matter. Different types of RV construction means that can be anywhere from 23' to 34'. Pick the length based on type of campsites you want to fit into. A 23' will always fit into a 34' spot, but never a 34' into a 23' spot. There are a lot more 25' sites than 35' ones. Many people say there are plenty of 35' sites whiles others say they'd never camp in those type of parks/sites. You should understand what type you want.
