Ditto. The 1500 series trucks run out out cargo capacity against their GVWR way before you ever hit that max tow rating.
As a general guideline with that drivetrain I would recommend staying at or below 6000 lbs loaded. Since the average family adds 1000-1500 lbs of "stuff" to a trailer, that would mean shopping dry weights between 4500-5000 lbs. If you look at liteweight series of trailers, there is a pretty big selection of 28' that meet that criteria.
Yes-The Ultra Lights are ideal for half-tons. Anything under 5,500 DRY is the way to go.
