DW and I just put down a $500 earnest money check on a new 2015 CRV EX to tow behind our motor home. The car is due to be in sometime this week. In looking for the base plate at Blue Ox I didn't find it. Further research (looking up the owners manual) I have discovered there is a change in the transmission that makes new CRV's not towable 4 down. It never occurred to me to do this research before shopping since so many CRV's are being towed now. I am very disappointed. We haven't yet talked to the dealership about getting our check back and I really don't anticipate a problem, but the list of automatic transmission cars that are towable 4 down is getting quite small.

Yeah, there was a thread about this recently. 'Tis a crying shame that the CRV, a very popular choice among MH owners wanting to flat tow, is no longer able to be towed that way. Like you said, the choices of vehicles that can be flat towed without major modification is getting smaller and smaller.If you really like the CRVs, you might want to look for a lightly used CRV model that can be flat towed?

We bought a 2014 back in May, thank goodness!

Check Motorhome Mag Toad/dingy guides. http://www.motorhomemagazine.com/

Every year they put out a guide of cars and trucks that can become toads without having to do modifications. 2014 guide was with April issue. Just check out the owners manual on any 2015 models as the new guide is not out yet. Dick

Thanks. There have been rumors printed in various car magazines that the 2015 was going to have a CVT, and currently no car with a CVT is flat towable. Hubby and I decided to get a 2014 while the selection was good.

..Minor correction, but: The Ford Cmax and Fusion hybrids have a CVT transmission, and they are flat towable, with full factory support (although they are probably about the ONLY CVT transmission vehicles that can be flat towed, haha).

Thats what we have (a 2013 Fusion Hybrid), and we are very happy with it.

Thanks for the correction. This gets corrected about once a month, several times by me. No one ever seems to remember the Ford Hybrid CVT is the exception to the rule.

We just moved from a 4wd Toyota Tacoma to a front wheel drive car and will be getting a tow dolly. I would tow 4 down but don't like the options that are out there. Will deal with the slight hassle of a tow dolly to drive what I want. Stinks the new CRV can't be towed.

Dealership treated us well. We were able to move from the 2015 to a 2014 EXL. It was a step up in price from the basic, but they did it for almost the same money.

Good deal Steve!! Was thinking it might not turn out so well with the dealer when I first started reading your post. Now you have tinted windows which my wife would never do w/o again. She has the basic 2007 CR-V with steel rims which are rusting....... You're better off with the EXL. Good luck!

We have 4 Hondas in our driveway. Two 2004 CR-Vs, one bought new, one used about 4 years ago. We flat tow the one bought used and it has been a great car. The other CR-V is being abused by the young son who has increased its weight greatly by applying too many cycling related stickers here there and everywhere. So far it has survived his efforts to destroy it and runs fine. I expect both of them to be on the road for many more years. If you take care of your vehicles I don't think you can go wrong buying a older CR-V and holding on to it. I saw a 2002 the other day with new interior and new paint. It was beautiful.

It can be hard to find a "gently used" CR-V since they are usually kept for an extended period of time. I just traded a 2004 CR-V that was in great shape but the running gear had 150,000 miles on it.
