2016 Ford Edge

I have towed a Honda CRV for several years and it has been a great toad/dinghy. Now that Honda changed the tranny such that automatics can't be towed 4-down, I have been studying the new Ford Edge. Looks like a really nice car with lots of avail, options. Before buying, I am hoping that someone here on the Forum has a 2016 Ford Edge and can let me know if they are happy with it and how it tows.

Thanks in advance

  • There has been a thread about the new 2016 Edge not that long ago that indicated it is tow-able. Let us know how you make out as that looks like it will be our next car as well.
  • The C Max, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln hybrids use CVTs. All are flat towable. My C Max is pushing 83,000 total miles (73k driven and the balance towed) and has been a wonderful car.
  • Ford's new product line are flat towable and they also have the CVTransmissions

MMMMM don't think they have CVTs. Most all have 6 speed select shift transmission.
  • We have a 2013 Lincolm MKX which is basically the same as the Edge. As for the SUV, we love it. It is a great size and very comfortable. The MKX comes with the 3.7 V6 which is the same engine for the base Mustang with 305HP. Ours is AWD. We have not yet set ours up to be towed but it is my understanding that many folks have done this successfully all the way up to the 2016s. We considered the 2015 Edge Limited at the time but the MKX had more standard equipment and we liked the looks better. Ours was a Certified used car which gave us peace of mind buying a used vehicle.

Some Lincolns have adaptive cruise control and I think the sensors interfere with mounting a baseplate so if the Edge has this feature, I'd check the availability of baseplates for that car.
  • Thanks, Ed. Given all that I drive and tow ( possibly 70,000 miles in the past few years) the two most popular toads on the road that I observed are the CRV and the Jeep. Since Consumer Reports has hammered the Jeep for years and has high grades for the CRV Honda is losing out on future beaucoup sales.
Guess I'm getting off subject in my own post but will still hope for input on the 2016 Frord Edge.

Interesting to note that Honda with its CRV, and most other cars with the new continuously variable transmissions claim they are not flat towable, yet nearly all of Ford's new product line are flat towable and they also have the CVTransmissions.

Sorry not to answer your question...just had to vent.
