2018 Leaf Video
Is the 2018 available in the USA now?
When I test drove a Leaf back in 2012 I remember that when you applied the brake with low pressure the car went into regenerative braking and as you increased brake pressure more regenerative braking then when pressure was great enough the service/friction brakes were applied.
Not sure I find the E Pedal an advantage over the previous system.
Curious if the 2018 conventional brake works like it did on the 2012.
I always assumed the EV cars could be flat towed. That is a big negative as an EV would be a great TOAD.
We are Leaf owners but a 2016 SV with the 30KWh battery. You are looking at the 2018 with the 40 (plus) KWh battery. They are in production in Tennessee right now and will be available for purchase in January (second week). But the first 7000 are sold so you woould have to wait a little longer.
The e-pedal is a more extreme version of regenerative braking that was on the 2017 and earlier models. For example. On our 2016 it will not actually bring the vehicle to a stop as the regen is not strong enough to do that. If you select the e-pedal on it will increase the regen to the point that it will actually bring the vehicle to a stop. You can literally drive without ever0 using the friction brakes. Obviously they are there if you need them. Although brake usage with any EV is minimal, with the new leaf (and the BMW i3) brake usage is minimal and more than likely the brakes will last for the life of the car although I think the experts say 300,000 KM.
Any leaf can be dollied and there are a number of people towing leafs behind motorohomes on them. We tow an electric vehicle on a trailer but not our leaf. Rather our smart ED convertible. It is a blast and the trailer is not much bigger than a dolly so easy to store. We have installed an EVSE in the front cabinet of the motorhome so we can charge easier when we are in Situe.
The leaf is the best car we have ever owned and has never seen a day of maintenance.
Here are a couple pics.
Cheers.
