I followed a 8000+ lb. trailer with that setup. When he went over a tiny dip, it came off, with no safety chains or brakes, it was great fun! You should have seen the guy pedal that bicycle to get out of the way.
After the police left, he fixed it by wrapping his belt around the coupler to make it secure and then drove it home. I never follow any trailer very close.
