In 1972 I was towing my first new boat .
I had a 1 - 7 /8" ball .
The trailer was a 2 " coupling .
It came off the first day .
The double chains kept the trailer close .
Lucky for me , I had instaled an equalizing hitch my new 1972 suburban .
So the chains had a good anchor point .
I have about 6 different inserts for my equalizing hitch , each with a different ball or drop including my original insert with the 1- 7 /8" ball .
Over time they have multiplied as the need arose .
You will need a 2 - 5 /16" again .
Get a good one with the 1 inch diameter bolt .
3 /4 , 5 /8" , and 1 /2" bolt trailer balls are available .
Buy the biggest bolt you can .
