2nd to Wrangler what are the best toad options?

Can't get them anymore, but we still have a 2011 HHR as a toad. Requires no mods except installation of the tow plates, remove one fuse (inside) or install a switch. hook up and tow. Usually takes us less that a minute to hook up or disconnect. Lots of miles showing, and about half as much not showing.

I have an Elantra that I tow 4 down. Hyundia says turn off the radio so you don't run the battery down and go. No speed limit or time limit. That being said, I have a Ford Ranger that I also set up to pull 4 down with the same no limits, just hook up and go. The Elantra gets about 32 MPG and the Ranger only about 16, but one has more room and one is a pickup. I think there may be more then one "best" thing to pull 4 down.

the universe of flat towable vehicles is shrinking. Motor Home magazine publishes an annual list which can be accessed here.

beyond that I would want a vehicle that...

- did not require any modifications in order to flat tow it. many vehicles CAN be modified to be flat towed. please see Remco Towing.

- I would also want a vehicle, modified or not, that had no time/distance/speed restrictions. some vehicles that can be flat towed require they be stopped every X-hours in order to start the engine and run the transmission through the gears; or be towed no faster than X-MPH; or be towed no further than X-miles before stopping, starting the engine and running the transmission through the gears. maybe that's not a big deal to some but I wanted a toad that we could tow for days on end without any of the above restrictions.

we were towing an ‘03 2-DR auto tranny Wrangler (TJ) from '03-'10. in '10 we bought a '10 Jeep Liberty which we've been towing for the last 9-years. neither required any modifications or has any towing restrictions. we still have the Wrangler and it's still outfitted with the tow bar, baseplate and auxiliary brake (don't forget you should have an auxiliary braking system).

you can't go wrong with a Jeep.
