30 to 20 amp adapter

I have a 30 amp TT and a 20 amp dedicated socket, but the dogbones go 30 to 15 amp.
I know everybody says to stay away from the hockey puck adapters, but that is all that comes up on a google search.
I occasionally want to run my 13,500 A/C.
Is there a good 30 to 20 amp adapter?
I was wondering if the 30 to 15 dogbone would actually handle a 20 amp load, if plugged into a 20 amp dedicated receptacle?
Thanks

  • I been using a hockey puck for 14 years at this house without a problem.
  • Yes material wise. A 15a plug is fine at 20 amps as long as the attached wire is up for it. The plug blades are the same size and thickness.

I don't want to start a war over this but there is a tremendous difference electrically between 15 amps and 20 amps, if you mean intrinsically or material wise, you are quite probably correct if, you are buying American engineered connectors. I'm sorry but it seems some foreign manufacturers do cut corners on occasion.

Hope I didn't step on any toes here.

WALMART carries the RV30A to 15A long 'DOGBONE' adapter as well...
They look similar to this GOOGLE SEARCH image

I have used two of those WALMART models for the past 5-years and they run cool connecting my 50-foot (10-3) Contractor grade Extension cords from my Garage separate 20A circuits using 15AMP receptacles to my 30AMP Shore Power cables.

  • 30A to 20A adapters seem to be hard to find. Home Depot lists one on their web site. When I bought it the package said 20A. When I opened it at home and looked closely at the plug itself, stamped on it very faintly, it said 15A. I took it back and made trip to the electrical store and made my own.

  • Hi,

I run my air conditioner on the 15 to 30 dog bone on a regular basis. I do monitor voltage.
