Even though you have a 3500 it is an express van and PAYLOAD is limited.
Yes 1800# addition trailer weight will make a difference
You do NOT tow 'dry' (empty)
Tongue weight will increase.
The Salem has a 17% 'dry' tongue weight (5300/890) so at GVWR tongue could be 1500# (some weight will be off set by 'toys' in garage---but not major decrease)
The Coachworks has a 15% 'dry' tongue weight (3500/530) so at GVWR tongue could be 1100# (again some weight off set by 'toys',,,,but not major decrease)
The Coachworks would most likely be a better fit...weight wise, tongue weight, payload capacity etc.
Have you weighed your VAN 'Camp Ready' (all the stuff plus people/pets that would be in van for camping trip) ????
With real world camp ready weights you can make a better decision on WHAT weight your van can carry/tow---otherwise it is just guesstimates (S.W.A.G.)
