One winter we were returning home to the frozen north from Christmas break. The next day I was to return to my teaching job and the kids to school, hubby to work, etc. I was unloading the motorhome and had a laundry basket full of stuff. Stepped down onto the step from the rig. Ice and snow on the ground and my foot slipped off the step. As I went down my ankle turned and I heard crunching and stupidly I shifted my weight to the other foot. That ankle turned as well and I heard it crunching as I went down. All I could do was cry and yell. DH finally got me in the house. My ankles swelled up and I could only crawl on my knees.
I actually waited a day and went to the doctor who xrayed everything. Not one broken bone, but all the connective tissue, etc., was torn. Doc said a break would have been easier on me. Took forever to heal as I hobbled around on two badly swollen ankles. Still have swelling occasionally.
