5th to a C or A, thoughts

We were not "frequent" travelers in either of the two motor-homes we owned. We started out with an older 26' Class C to "try the lifestyle". We enjoyed the lifestyle but really hated the Class C. The cab was cramped, needed a step-down from the living area and I kept hitting my head on the overhead bed when moving from the living area to the driver's seat.

It has other issues due to its age - very poor gas mileage from the carburated 460 engine and a poor interior design that made it very cramped. We sold it after less than a full season and bought a gently-used, 8-year old 32' Class A. We found it through an ad in our local paper. The original owners were selling it because of developing medical problems.

We loved the roominess, liked the 8mpg gas mileage and the overall comfort, particularly the ability to include the driving area as part of the "house" when parked. We had 4 good seasons with it, but it was gobbling a lot of $4.50/gallon gas, which we couldn't afford. We sold it and discontinued the lifestyle.

I was going to say to go with a smaller 5'ver to save money, but now I see the steps are an issue.

Sounds like you have a solid plan. For me I would go with a small C and make sure you have levelers on it. The next question you'll have to ask yourself is if you're going to go with a tow car or not.

I think you're going to find out that you're still dealing with a lot of monkey business by staying in the MH RV world for short term traveling.

Stairs can just be a stinking misery for so many. I have a rancher home and hate stairs and even those few stairs in the 5th drove me nuts HA

Keep searching, you will find what suits you to a T and enjoy the heck out of it.



You know also since you said you will travel 2-3 weeks at a time, about 2-3 times a year.....you might still consider a travel trailer in that with a Class A or C you have alot more worries as in taking care of another motor. Vehicle taxes etc. are higher. Oil changes and all that. BUT if you are all about trading in your truck for a smaller vehicle also, then the Class A and C becomes a good option again..........ok just throwing out thoughts LOL :)

Both will be small compared to your 5th wheel. C will be fine for short trips but lacks the storage of Class A.

BB, you are right. We will travel for 2-3 weeks, 2-3 times a year. Spend the rest of the time between to Condo & Home Base. Funny, we are concentrating on the NMB/Cherry Grove area. I wanted a channel house, but as my wife pointed out, they are all built on stilts, with long stairways to get to them.I believe her exact words were If you can't haul your *** up into the truck, how the $%#@ do you think your going to get into the house" or something to that effect.

My opinion has always been that it depends on how you use it. If you travel many thousands of miles and many actual days on the highway a MH makes sense. But if you are only actually driving the highway 10-20 days per year and letting it sit for 345-355 days per year, it doesn't.

Have you thought about location area in MB for the condo. Like Georgetown area is way less crowds but not far at all from the MB fun. Cherry Grover area etc? Even up near Apache CG the shores are less crowded in summer with less hotel/condo units in the North MB area?

Oh you are doing reverse. See we do the state parks only in summer, you literally only own the beaches in MB. You are right tho we would hate the crowds at the condo unit/hotel areas for sure. Alot of people :) Even at Ocean Lakes you can't get a spot on the beach to put down your towel in the summer, hence we stopped that and hit the state parks which are super fab.

Ahh, see thats the reason to continue RVing. Summers are too crowded. Fall, winter and spring are condo seasons for us. Let the kids use it during the summers while we travel to cooler locations.

Yes I am so there with you!
We sold the 40ft toyhauler 5th and got a 34 total lengh TT toyhauler cause in all honesty we were sick of big, the stupid stairs for the toyhauler for the master, (which had the bath entrance there) and a few times we darn near would fall down those stupid steps HAHA

As we searched to downsize cause we wanted this, we kept going toward the 36/38 total length and we kept having to say NO...NO...we want smaller and easier. Our limit was 30 on the box. So we got a 34 total lenth travel trailer and boy are we happy we did this.

All RV lengths, size, floor plans have their time in our lives as we need them. But now it is 100% about how are you going to travel and how much space you do need for that length of trip in the future etc.

Just sit and think about it. You will know what is right when you really think about how much you are going to use it and more.

I have to say a nice condo at MB....I know where my summers will be :) Not on the road at that point :)

oh and edited to say I just booked at Myrtle Beach Travel park on Dec 26 to Jan 2 cause we want the New Years eve fun at Boardwalk on the Beach. MB is a fun place for sure.

Do you have the condo bought yet or the location area picked where you want to be in MB?
