I hear you on the side-to-side movement in off-road conditions with the Anderson. Last year I hit my bed cover rail with the camper and chipped the fiberglass. I was in a sharp turn in uneven terrain. I was going very slow but it doesn't take much to do damage. As much as I would like to get the Companion, my negatives are few but important to my situation:
1. Weight - I'm unable to install and remove myself. I need the utility value of an empty bed when not using my 5th wheel so I take out my Anderson several times throughout the year. The steel Anderson is heavy but manageable. They now make an aluminum version that's even lighter.
2. Payload - I have a standard-bed with Crew Cab. My payload is already limited with a 1900 lb hitch weight from my trailer.
2. If I recall, the maximum side deflection of the Companion is 7 degrees in either direction. When I do the math, I would still hit my truck bed with the max deflection unless I raised my trailer above level. I don't want to raise it too high and cause excess weight on the rear axle of the trailer.
If I'm wrong please tell me. I would like to hear people's experience with the Companion and the Anderson.
